EDPO 515: Childhood & Society: It’s a Different World
Course Description:
How does a child’s psychological development and the environment they grow up in, affect how they live and learn – from infancy through early elementary school? Best Practices and professional standards of the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC – http://www.naeyc.org/ ) will be considered. This course is appropriate for early childhood educators and early elementary school educators, and has been approved by the Maine Department of Education for Early Childhood Education certification and recertification.
Course Goals:
• To understand and apply theories of childhood development to the teaching and learning process
• To explore the history of childhood – past and present
• To analyze how home, school, peers, and technology impact children.
