This course prepares educators and paraprofessionals to effectively teach students who demonstrate challenging behavior in the classroom. The course and text will guide teaches in using inclusive practices. This course complies with the INTASC standards (Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium) and the CEC (Council for Exceptional Children).
As a result of taking this course, participants will be able to:
- 1. Analyze and explain the core principles of positive behavior support.
- 2. Analyze and explain the importance of using a multi-tiered system of behavioral support at the school and classroom level.
- 3. Explore the impact of traumatic experiences on student behavior.
- 4. Understand the impact of brain-based learning differences on student behavior.
- 5. Implement a variety of evidence-based classroom management strategies.
- 6. Implement a variety of evidence-based antecedent intervention strategies.
- 7. Collaborate with colleagues to complete a functional behavioral assessment.
- 8. Design, implement and evaluate an individualized behavioral support plan.
