COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This is a hybrid course using technology to prepare students to teach mathematics in the inclusive K-8 classroom. This study includes a significant middle school component and is in compliance with the NCTM Principles and Standards and with the Common Core Standards for Mathematics.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
Upon successful completion of this course, educators will be able to:
- Demonstrate—Factual Knowledge, Conceptual Knowledge, Procedural Knowledge, and Metacognitive Knowledge (as per Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy2) in teaching mathematics’ students in the inclusive classroom.
- Satisfy—NCTM3 principles for teaching elementary and middle school mathematics.
- Satisfy—INTASC4 principles for teaching.
- Teach—from a strong theoretical perspective using the constructivist philosophical and developmental approach.
- Use—a problem-solving approach to the teaching of mathematics (Hiebert, et al.)
- Engage—in ongoing, praxis-based action/research by utilizing data-driven research, peer-reviewed professional journals, and other professional development resources such as The National Council for Teachers of Mathematics.1 Graduate credits are offered through NEI’s academic partnership with Endicott College, Van Loan School of Graduate and Professional Studies, Beverly, Massachusetts.
